CRMJ 1010 - Introduction to Criminal Justice

This course introduces students to the American criminal justice system, including its history, philosophical foundations, and major components: law enforcement, the courts, and corrections. Emphasis is placed on the roles and responsibilities of justice institutions; the relationship between criminal justice and the public; and the challenges of balancing individual rights with public safety. Students will examine ethical issues, contemporary debates, and the ways criminal justice connects to broader social, political. and cultural contexts.
